The other day my supervisor and myself were talking about how vast God is (Yes, it’s very cool to be able to talk to your Supervisor about God). He mentioned how everything set in motion just keeps doing its thing every second, minute, hour, etc. of every day! For instance… let’s take the heart. I found this on the internet: “Since the solar year consists of 525,948 minutes and 48 seconds, a quick calculation at the rate of 80 BPM gives us a ballpark figure of 42,075,904 beats per year, give or take a couple mill. A reasonable estimate for the number of heartbeats in a lifetime is about three billion.” Now that may be a number that is hard for us to imagine. So, if you break it down to daily… it is about 115,200 times a day. That is without being told to beat. And that is when you are asleep, or awake. The heart is one amazing creation. You can do this type of thing to any number of things in God’s creation. Each animal has a different heart rate and a different expected longevity of life. Each creature has blood coursing through its veins and the heart keeps on beating every day, week, month, year.
One of our Sunday School lessons some time back was talking about how vast God is also and how He has thoughts for us. David said it absolutely beautifully in Psalm 139. The entire Psalm is beautiful, but let’s look at just a couple of verses.
17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with You.
I would say that David knew his God very intimately! The same God that we can know just as intimately. Have you ever tried to count the grains of sand on a beach? That is an impossible task that no one could ever do but we all agree that there are countless grains of sand on any given beach. If God makes our heart beat every second of every day and knows our thoughts and has thoughts for us daily don’t you think He would love to hear from us too!?
There are at least 10,000 reasons to love God and all He has done for us! He is our creator and would love to hear from us! He is concerned with every detail of our lives and wants to share each step with us. In Philippians 4:6-7 it tells us not to worry… “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Sometimes you may be afraid to talk to God … Isaiah has this to say in Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
Finally David said this in Psalm 121:7-8 “The LORD will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
I am quickly learning that God wants to be a part of every second of my life and I am finally able to say, “Come On In!” I wasted so many years struggling with all sorts of things. If you are struggling and are not sure where to turn, turn to God. He wants to come into your life also. If you don’t have the peace that you want in your life and you struggle with stuff in your life, talk to God. He wants to hear from you! He loves you that much! After all, He calls you His beloved.
In Him,
Leah
