MODIFIED RELATIONSHIPS

There have been many times that I just didn’t know what God wanted me to share with people.  At one time, I had an email group of about 70 ladies that I would send out a devotional email every morning … and as I said there were times when I didn’t know what to say exactly.  I would always pray this… “God, I am not sure what you want me to share this morning, but I am here and waiting for You to tell me.”   I didn’t have to wait long before I heard God as clear as can be say this… “Just start typing and I will give it to you.”  God and me have this wonderful relationship to where I feel totally safe and comfortable to tell Him that I don’t know or understand.  He – without fail – has always helped me understand in one way or another.  One way is for me to just start to type and He gives me the words.  This is pretty amazing to me.  I honestly didn’t have this last paragraph in my mind when I began typing the first word.  I just listen to God (The Holy Spirit) tell my heart what to type.  I type one or two words and the rest just flow from my fingers.  This is one of the many reasons I love God!

You know… God is a good God and wants the best for us always.  He has a wonderful instruction book that is combined with His love story for us.  He displays His love for us in so many ways.  The beautiful world we live in and through our friends and family.  Ok, some of you are saying… your friends or family – not so much… I know that each of you have diverse situations with family or friends that stretch the limits on love and caring.  That is one of the main reasons to turn to God for His love and guidance.  If you have folks in your life that are not uplifting, encouraging, loving and compassionate, then maybe those folks don’t need to be in your life.  That is not to say go out and get a divorce, or end your relationships with your friends or family.  No – Not at all!  But there are some that may need to be modified or ended.  I had to face the fact in a few of my relationships in the past that they were a detriment to me, and I chose to make a change.  It was the best thing I could have ever done!  God warns us of people that are oppressive, negative and hurtful.  God warns us to stay away from those damaging situations that tear down and destroy because He loves us.  He cares about you as an individual and wants you to be safe and happy and content.  I am not talking about that “Pollyanna attitude” (which in and of itself is not that bad – look up the definition).  I am talking about a true happiness that goes deep in your soul and your heart.  The kind of contentment that no one can take away or destroy!  The deep contentment in knowing God loves you and He is always there for you!  And will NEVER leave you!

As Christians we are so vulnerable to many things that vie for our attention.  Some of you have little ones, some have husbands or wives or elderly parents or other life relationships or jobs that pull you 9 ways to Sunday sometimes.  Life is not easy and I know first-hand it’s not easy without God and Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit for guidance in your life.  The story of King Ahab (King of Israel at the time) went directly against the instructions that God gave him through the prophet Micaiah.  He paid for it with his life.  Read the story in 1 Kings 22.

We must heed God’s voice and His direction if we want to live and live with the freedom God intended for us.  Proverbs 1:7  tells us where knowledge begins… “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

It’s a hard thing to live without God… I hope and pray all of you have God in your life.  However, there may be some of you that read this that don’t really know about a relationship with Jesus Christ.  You hear it talked about but don’t really know how to go about having a relationship with Him.  You may not know that God sent Jesus into this world as a baby.  He lived 33 years – sinless years – on this earth as our example to follow.  He was all human, yet all God too!  Jesus said in John 10:30 30 “I and My Father are one.”

Also, in John 14:7-11 Jesus says –

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”  Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”    Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.”

So God sent His only Son into the world to save us from our sin because God is a just God.  He loved us so much that He didn’t want to live without us – John 3:16 – “16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

He gave us Jesus as an example to live by and when Jesus left this old earth, He gave us the Holy Spirit as our helper to make each day the best it can be!  John 14:15-18 – “15 “If you love Me, keep[a] My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

God is waiting to hear from you today.  He calls you His beloved.  Let the Holy Spirit help you with your troubled relationships, your decisions and your life.  Your life will never be the same!  He promises!  He loves you so much!  After all, He calls you His beloved
