I had a friend whose mom had Alzheimer’s and his dad would take her to get a hamburger every Saturday at Dairy Queen. Every Saturday! I asked my friend once why they didn’t go somewhere else and he said, “because mom knows the place and is comfortable there.” Now Dairy Queen may not have had the best burgers in the world but as far as she was concerned, they were the best in her world. His dad could have taken her anywhere probably and she would have been fine. But he knew she was “comfortable” there and he loved her greatly and wanted her to feel good and comfortable. To her that was “abundant living”. She has since passed, and my friend lost a precious soul in his mother. But she is with Jesus now and out of pain and misery…
God is so much like that. He wants us to be comfortable where we are. He doesn’t want us to be sad and feel bad about where He has us in life. He wants us to be happy. He wants us to know that wherever He has us is just where we are supposed to be. John 10:10 says this… “10 The thief cometh not but to steal and to kill and to destroy. I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” That is not to say that He doesn’t stretch us and get us out of our comfort zone sometimes. But we can trust He is there with us, and He will help us through whatever situation we are in. He is always with us! The Apostle Paul learned how to be content in whatever situation. See Philippians 4:11-13 “11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me.”
Ok, you say… “but I am not the Apostle Paul!” and you may say it quite vehemently. Yes, this is true… we are not he that’s for sure! We need to strive to learn that though. If you wake up and before your feet hit the floor, ask God to help you and guide you through the day, to help you find that “contentment” in whatever comes your way, HE Will Do It! If we ask and do not receive… it could be because we ask with the wrong motives… see this James 4:3 “3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” Now we may not “spend it on our pleasures” but I think you understand what he means here.
Remember… God wants us to live “abundantly”! The definition of “Abundantly” is this: Abundantly – in large quantities, plentiful or extremely. Does Satan shudder when your feet hit the floor? He should! Because You are a Child of The King! And you will be a conqueror today! You are “More than a Conqueror”!! It tells us so in Romans 8:31-39,
“37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
After all, God calls you His Beloved!
