MASTER ARTIST

Years ago I worked in the Art Department at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.  It was one of the most enjoyable and educational jobs I have ever had.  The people and the environment were exceptional, and I loved going to work every single day.  The Dishman Art Gallery was my office.  Nice, huh?  However, this was a very volatile time in my life.  I was going through a divorce and the folks in the Art Department took me in as part of their family.  It really was a wonderful time in my life.  My direct supervisor was the ceramics instructor and Director of the Art Department.  There were several professors there and each had their own specialty, as you all probably already knew that.  Mr. O’Neil, my boss, was a round little man with a jolly laugh and a dry sense of humor.  He was a Master Ceramics Artist!  He would teach the students to see the finished piece of art in a lump of clay before they even got started throwing it on the wheel.  It always amazed me what beautiful works of art came out of the classes he taught.  Sometimes it was working with stained glass and not ceramics.  I remember one student that created this magnificent stain glass screen.  It was the kind that has three panels, and the panels were hinged.  The screen stood about 5’ tall and it was a pond scene.  Complete with lilies, frogs, and cat tails.  It was absolutely gorgeous!  All of the works of art that were on display from time to time were, in their own way, beautiful.  Even the squatty little clay pot with rough edges and odd color.  The artist had seen the finished work long before they were actually finished with the piece.  And the artist knew it was going to be just what they wanted.

I know another Master Artist that sees His finished work through loving eyes.  I had the honor of singing in my brother’s church today and one of the song’s lyrics was “He sees me through the blood, and He can only see a King.”  God is a Just and Righteous God and cannot accept anything less than sinless righteousness.  That is why Jesus shed His blood for our sins.  Jesus, without sin, the perfect Lamb of God, died for us and shed His blood for us and that blood covers our sin, so when God sees us, He sees us through Jesus eyes, if we have asked Jesus into our lives and hearts.  As I said, He sees His finished work… or work that is in the process … through His loving eyes and He sees Jesus.

As a Master Artist, He molds and shapes us into a work of art like only He can do.  He created us each in a different way and we are all on our own journeys.  We are all at different stages in the process and we will not be finished until we see Christ face-to-face!  Oh, what glory that will be!  One day I will see Him face-to-face and be made perfect… but until that day I hope to yield myself to the Master Craftsman and be molded and made into His likeness.

God as the Creator of all things is a pretty awesome, overwhelming thing to think about.  Here is one scripture that says it all:

Nehemiah 9:6
You alone are the Lord;
You have made heaven,
The heaven of heavens, with all their host,
The earth and everything on it,
The seas and all that is in them,
And You preserve them all.
The host of heaven worships You.

Here are 63 more scriptures that speak to that… God The Creator!

Another few lines in that same song I mentioned above is

“I question and I wonder
what the Father sees in me…..

Then He constantly reminds me…
He’s the Father, I’m the child.

So, I yield in sweet surrender,
making Calv’ry all worthwhile.”

We must yield to His molding and making … sweet surrender… to make the finished work that Jesus did on Calvary worthwhile.

So, yield to the Master today and let Him make you into a beautiful work of art!  He is waiting.  Yielding is not a bad thing.  It is a precious trusting and faith in our Father.  Our Heavenly Father.  The one who created you and loves you so much.  You are a priceless treasure to God!  He can’t wait to see you in Heaven with Himself.

In 1 Corinthians 2:9 he tells us… But as it is written: “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.”  Come quick Lord Jesus!
