DOES YOUR ARMOR FIT?

Putting on armor (or armour)!  Who out there reading this has ever done so?  I haven’t.  I am talking of course of the armor that the knights used to wear when they went into battle.  Armor has many different kinds of connotations.  Wikipedia has this to say… The word “armour” was introduced into use in the Middle Ages as a borrowing from the French. It is dated from 1297, as a “mail, defensive covering worn in combat” from Old French armoire, itself derived from the Latin armatura “arms and/or equipment” with the root arma “arms or gear”.  In the Bible it talks about putting on the full armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18.  If soldiers only put on partial armor they would more than likely be hurt in the battle.  Someone pointed out to me also that the scripture in the Bible says nothing about a protection for the back.  Why?  Because if we look back it makes us vulnerable.  We need to look back to the past, but forward to the future.  The story of Lot and his wife leaving Sodom and Gomorrah should give us a clue.  The angel of God told them to leave and never look back.  The armor that we must put on daily should cover our entire front for us to advance forward.  Looking back is often a sign of insecurity, fear and weakness.  As Christians, we must keep looking forward and be prepared for the attacks of Satan and the world.  I know some will say… “Oh, Leah, do you really believe in spiritual warfare?”  My answer is YES!!  I absolutely do!  The Bible talks about it, I believe it!

Some of us may only decide to put on portions of the armor.  For instance, reading the Word.  That’s good that we are but we, as Christians, cannot afford to only put on the pieces we choose too.  We must choose, this day, to put on the full armor of Christ to protect us from the lord of the air (Satan).  It is a spiritual battle and not one that is usually seen by the human eye.  It is felt in the spirit and heart.  If the Bible says that it is important … well, then it must be important.

I confess I do not do this consciously every morning as I should.  I am not perfect, and God knows my faults and weaknesses.  Unfortunately, Satan knows them too.  So, I pray for myself and all of you to put on the Armor of God to do battle out there today!

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

I love being able to bring you what God has laid on my heart.  I challenge you today and, in the week ahead, to come to start your day by reading this scripture and consciously put on the Armor of God.  Be prepared to meet Satan and do battle for the Lord!
