Do you like to be made to do something? I don’t think any of us really like that. We all like to make our own mind up and have the freedom to choose what we want to do and when we want to do it. Also, do you want to “make” someone like you, much less make them love and respect you? Of course not. Those are the kinds of things we want people to do on their own. Because if they choose to like you, love you and respect you it means much more. It’s a deeper kind of like, love and respect.
God being the infinite Creator that He is knew this about our nature. After all, … He created us! When He created us, He did not want robots. He wanted human beings that loved Him because of Who He is! He gave us free will (this link has scriptures about “free will”). He could have created us as beings that served Him blindly. Ones that had no free will whatsoever, but again, in His infinite wisdom He created humans that had a mind and could choose whom they will worship. Whom they will serve. Because chosen like, love and respect are so much deeper.
Now let’s look at the Angel. Angels are not to be worshipped. God created them as He created all else. See this website for a good description and good information on angels. In the times that Paul encountered angels, he fell on his face. When John was being shown various things by an angel – Revelation 22 – and an angel took him to another place to see…. John fell down to worship the angel. The angel clearly said … “See that you do not do that. For[d] I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” So, angels are NOT to be worshipped. Mary, the mother of Jesus, encountered Gabriel sent from God. She was troubled by what he told her but she did not attempt to worship him (Luke 1:29-30).
Here is an excerpt from the above-mentioned website about angels:
“The word “angel” actually comes from the Greek word aggelos, which means “messenger.” The matching Hebrew word mal’ak has the same meaning.”
So, angels are never meant to be worshipped. We should worship God alone… (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) just like the 10 Commandments say in Exodus 20:3-5 say:
“3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;”
Now there is one angel that wanted to be worshiped and was the most beautiful angel in Heaven. He was cast out of Heaven by God because he wanted to be like God. Clearly, no created being can be “like God”. He is the creator of all! Now Satan was created by God and yet he wanted to be like God and therefore wanted to be worshiped. God cast him out of heaven along with all of his demons. It says in the following scripture …
“Satan is also called the “prince of the power of the air” in Ephesians 2:2. He is the “ruler of this world” in John 12:31.” (From this website)
Another excerpt from that website about angels:
“The Bible classifies some angels as “elect” (1 Timothy 5:21) or “holy” (Matthew 25:31; Mark 8:38). All angels were originally holy, enjoying the presence of God (Matthew 18:10) and the environment of Heaven (Mark 13:32).
Other angels oppose God under the leadership of Satan (Matthew 25:41; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6; Ephesians 6:12). We often call these “demons.”
There is actually a great unseen conflict raging that goes beyond anything we can imagine. It is not, however, a fight between two equal and eternal forces. God who created all beings is still in charge, and once He has used wicked angels to accomplish His purposes, He will bring them to a final defeat.”
So… we should not worship a created being… angels. Worship only God.
Ok, back to the original thought. Angels worship God and apparently do have a will also. They – most – chose to worship God. The others were cast out. God created them and He created us. We have free will to do as we please. However, the consequences are deadly! If we choose to do our own thing and not the will of the Father, we may not have a chance in the future to decide to follow God. This life is so uncertain. Things can change in the blink of an eye. You never really know if you are going to have your next breath. So… as it says in Joshua 24:15…
“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
After you meet Jesus, you will want no other god… Jesus touches your heart and when you invite Jesus into your heart, He touches you like no other! You will never be the same. He loves you so much! After all, He calls you His beloved. See this wonderful Gaither Video…
