LIMITLESS LOVE

The scene is set, all the players are in place.  The church is full of guests and the pastor is ready to perform the ceremony.  All goes as planned and the Bride walks down the aisle to meet the Groom.  The pastor begins the normal scripture reading and then stops and says“Do you plan to love and cherish limitlessly?  Or are you going to limit your love to your spouse?  If you are going to limit your love then you need to just go home and not get married.  Because marriage is a sacred act before God and needs to have the limitless love of the Father in the midst of this union.”   Now, that probably would never really happen like that but that is what God expects, right?  I think so anyway.  I know I have not thought of that before I ever entered into a marriage relationship and if I had … or if we had had that conversation before we walked into the church I might not have divorce(s) in my past.  Life is hard and the world is made for the fast and expendable.  Nothing seems to last like it used to and certainly the divorce rate is higher than ever before.  This limitless love also should be in any true friendship.  OK, you say… that is really a tall order.  Yes, it is with our limited brain and body.  But… God offers His love, His strength, and His endurance for us to use in our life.  We, as humans, cannot attain this on our own but with God all things are possible as Jesus says in Matthew 19:26 – “26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

My mom and dad celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year, 2014!  WOW!  That is a long time with one person!  Dad always says it has been by the Grace of God that they made it this far!  I agree.  I have watched my mom and dad over the years, and they have had their problems, but they always seem to come back to what is the most important thing!  GOD!  Remember the scripture

Philippians 4:12-13 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me

Paul could not do it on his own strength, and neither can we.  But with Christ being the center of our lives, we can do all things!

In searching for more “Limitless Love of God” online, I ran across some information about an old Jewish poem which Frederick M. Lehman added 2 versus to it and it became the beautiful old hymn “The Love Of God”.  The whole story is here.  It is well worth the read.  The following is actually a verse that was found on a wall in an insane asylum.  Here is this beautiful old hymn.

The Love Of God

  1. The love of God is greater far
    Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
    It goes beyond the highest star,
    And reaches to the lowest hell;
    The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
    God gave His Son to win;
    His erring child He reconciled,
    And pardoned from his sin.
    • Refrain:
      Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
      How measureless and strong!
      It shall forevermore endure—
      The saints’ and angels’ song.
  2. When hoary time shall pass away,
    And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
    When men who here refuse to pray,
    On rocks and hills and mountains call,
    God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
    All measureless and strong;
    Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
    The saints’ and angels’ song.
  3. Could we with ink the ocean fill,
    And were the skies of parchment made,
    Were every stalk on earth a quill,
    And every man a scribe by trade;
    To write the love of God above
    Would drain the ocean dry;
    Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
    Though stretched from sky to sky.

God’s love is limitless!  Keep Him in the center of your life and love and you can experience that limitless love!  He loves you so much!  After all, He calls you His beloved!
