Have you ever known anyone who is paranoid? Maybe you are a little. I have known a person that was very paranoid and felt so uncertain about most all things during the day. Some folks have this disability, and it afflicts them in terribly ways. This person had many other problems as well to go along with the paranoia. I never could understand that level of fear. I have always been pretty sure of myself in most circumstances but there have been those times when I felt totally alone and not sure what to do. Afraid to step out and take one step for fear of going in the wrong direction. At those times in my life, I was not walking with the Lord and many things were not as clear or certain then. I look back now and wish I had used the power available to me to help me through some trouble spots in my past. However, those times serve as learning experiences and times that I can look back on and remember what it was like without God. That alone is enough to bring some fear into my heart! Since I have met the Savior and experienced His love, mercy, and grace, I never again want to be without His presence in my life.
Living with fear is a hard thing to do and it is also not a healthy thing. It affects our whole being. There are some key verses in the Bible that address fear. The first one is 2 Timothy 1:7 – 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. And another is Joshua 1:9 – 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” And one of my favorites is Romans 8:1-4 – There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,[a] who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
If you click here, you will see 21 more verses that address living with fear. If you feel fearful about anything turn to the Bible and read or listen (on your Bible app). Let the words sink into your soul and hear what God wants you to know through those scriptures. Sometimes it is helpful to just stop and before you begin reading or listening, pray and ask God to reveal what He wants you to know. He will hear your prayer and help you understand or reveal His Word to you. God never wants His children to be fearful of “things”. Now that is not to say that there is not healthy fear. Of course, you should be afraid of things in life and I believe you are smart enough to know what in life to be fearful of; snakes, jumping off a cliff without a parachute, going way to fast in that new car, etc. LOL… There is one thing that you should be aware of and be very alert about. See this scripture 2 Corinthians 4:4 – 4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. Satan is someone who should be reckoned with but not in your own power. You don’t stand a chance without God and Jesus in your life. Here is another scripture you should be aware of regarding Satan – 1 Peter 5:8 – 8 Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
The Bible also addresses Fear of The Lord. Some folks are confused about this. These 95 verses in the Bible address this kind of fear. This is the healthiest fear you can have! The Fear of the Lord is not the same kind of fear as say … being fearful of snakes, jumping off a cliff without a parachute, going way to fast in that new car. Fear of the Lord is a respect and reverence for the most powerful being around. He is the Creator of all things! From the tiniest of crawling creatures to the majestic mountains that reach to the sky to the magnificent stars and planets in the sky! He hears us cry when our heart aches and He cries with us when we hurt yet He parted the sea so those folks that He loved could escape an army of men that was pursuing them. Be fearful… yes but be fearful of the right things and make sure you have the right kind of fear and know the One who made those things.
I challenge you today to reach out to God and let Him help you with your fears of life. He is waiting to help you with your fear. God wants to know you and for you to know Him in the most intimate ways. He is always there to help you through your day. Just reach out to Him. He is a personal God. He wants to be involved in your daily life. He loves you so much! After all, He calls you His beloved.
